Intel Corporation is a multinational technology company based in Santa Clara, California. It is one of the world’s largest semiconductor chip makers and is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel supplies processors for computer system manufacturers such as Dell, HP, and Apple. It also manufactures motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers, integrated circuits, flash memory, graphics chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing.

Intel was founded in 1968 by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. The company’s name was derived from the words “integrated electronics”. Intel’s first product was the 3101 Schottky TTL bipolar 64-bit static random-access memory, which was released in 1969. In 1971, Intel released the first commercial microprocessor, the Intel 4004. This was followed by the Intel 8008 in 1972 and the Intel 8080 in 1974.

In the 1980s, Intel released the first x86 microprocessor, the Intel 8086. This was followed by the Intel 80286 in 1982, the Intel 80386 in 1985, and the Intel 80486 in 1989. In 1993, Intel released the Pentium processor, which was the first processor to use the x86-64 instruction set. This was followed by the Pentium Pro in 1995, the Pentium II in 1997, the Pentium III in 1999, and the Pentium 4 in 2000.

In the 2000s, Intel released the Pentium M in 2003, the Core Duo in 2006, the Core 2 Duo in 2008, the Core i3 in 2010, the Core i5 in 2011, the Core i7 in 2013, and the Core i9 in 2017. Intel also released the Atom processor in 2008, which was designed for low-power applications such as netbooks and tablets.

Intel has also developed a number of technologies such as Intel SpeedStep, Intel Hyper-Threading, Intel Turbo Boost, and Intel Quick Sync Video. Intel also produces a range of chipsets, motherboards, and other components for the PC market.
